Knockerball Rental – Or Buy?
It’s the new sporting sensation sweeping the world, but what’s the big deal behind Knockerball and how can you get involved?
Every been watching a soccer game and thought, this would be so much better if everyone was in giant bubbles and allowed to crash into each other as much as they like? Well, you’re in luck, because that’s exactly what Knockerball is all about.
Also called Bubble Bump Football it was invented in Norway by Henrik Elvestad and Johan Golden back in 2011 as a joke. It appeared in the game show Golden Goal and by 2014 had made its way to the US and debuted on the TV Game Show Shark Tank in 2015. From there it has grown rapidly, and there’s even a World Cup planned in 2018.
What is Knockerball?
The game is very much like soccer. There are goals and a ball and your aim will be to get the ball into the opposition’s goal. The catch is that you, and all your opponents, are protected within giant inflatable balls, and are allowed to crash into one another as much as you like.
What this means is that moves which would normally get you arrested after a soccer game are not only legal, but perfectly safe. As players often say – it’s the most fun you can have without endangering life and limb.
Videos of people playing the game have gone viral. They show people bumping into other players flipping them over and rolling them around. Indeed, the one thing they often seem to forget about is the actual ball. It’s all about creating as much chaos and fun as you possibly can. One even shows one brave soul climbing into one at a rodeo to take on a bull.
In the early stages, it was difficult to play Knocker Ball. Equipment was hard to come by and people didn’t really know what it was. Now, though, the number of outlets letting you buy or rent equipment is growing and you can even join official leagues. They have formulated their own set of rules to make the game as fun as safe as possible.
Buying from authorised dealers mean you’re getting the best equipment rated to the highest safety standard. They come with a set of rules so you can either create games and leagues of your own, or simply have a free-for-all in your garden. Some people have created offshoots of the game using the same equipment, such as Bubble Sumo, in which you have to push your friends out of a ring and Bubble Bowling where you roll in the bubble at some pins. You could create your very own Bubble Olympiad.
They can be quite expensive. Bubbles from the main retailers will set you back around $250, although there are special packages. One site, for example, offers a six-ball package – great for three aside games – for $,1434.
If that’s too pricey, there are discounts online and you may be able to get them second hand. But if you just want to dip your toe in the water and get the full Knockerball experience, you could rent specialist equipment for a day or a weekend.
